The BCC proudly supports its most recent Cycling Group Category being the Recreational Riders Group which is more commonly known in the area as “BADBUGS”.

Recreational Cycling is strong in the Bathurst District, however only a small percentage has registered officially with BBC for recreational riding. Never the less the club membership is growing every year.

It is hoped that with ever increasing support from the Bathurst Regional Council in the development of a fully integrated cycleway network, and sporting facilities that this number will increase substantially into the future.

The recreational riders group cater for many levels of interest from the beginner through to the advanced touring cyclist. Also, as a sub branch of the Bathurst Cycling Club with licensing to Cycling Australia there are also opportunities to participate in team and individual time trial events conducted by the racing club for those wishing to test their legs from time to time.

As cyclists advance in their fitness levels and skills they may choose to progress to a competitive level which involves a simple upgrade to their existing licensing to Road or Track racing, MTB or even BMX.

Of course it’s all about choice and many decide that recreational is where they wish to be. As a recreational rider there are still many options open to participate in significant events, such as our own Blayney to Bathurst Cyclo Sportif Challenge (B2B). The club also runs extended touring rides from time to time around the district, interstate and sometimes even overseas.

The clubs recreational riders are primarily over 40s but welcome any age group. We are particularly keen to see family participation in our rides. So if you want to spend quality time with your teenage daughter or son, start cycling together and watch the magic happen.

For every recreational cyclist it is as much about the social scene as it is about the riding  So special lunch, picnic and overnight rides make up a big part of the groups agenda.
