BCC – X Roads All in Handicap 2 September 2017

By Road Sub-Committee - September 11 2017

There were 24 starters for the tough 43km race out the Goulburn road and back. The first big test of this race was the steep climb to Caloola after 16km. At the top of the hill the B/C bunch of Dave McKellar, Glen Partridge, Luke Tuckwell & Graham Stait had made up 5 minutes on Scott Allen who started 6 minutes in front of them. Also pushing hard was the B Grade bunch of Brian Draper, Drew Carter & Rob Stephens who made up 2.5 minutes on the boys in front who had started 4 minutes before them. The next group of A/B Grade riders of Jarrod Bell, Stewart Renshaw & Drew Tuckwell had made up nearly 3 minutes on the group in front that had started 5 minutes ahead of them. The final A Grade scratch bunch of Jeremy Ryan, Jean-Paul Williams & Harry Bryant made up 2.5 minutes on the group in front that had started 6 minutes ahead of them. This A Grade group put in the fastest time from Perthville to Caloola of 30:40 and can claim the unofficial KOM of the day. There were 2 DNFs at the top of Caloola, Josh Corcoran and Ian Glen. Ian turned for home mumbling he was off the find the handicapper!

On the return run to the top of Caloola at 30km before the descent, Brett Dinger and Phil Stapleton lead the race with 13km to go. Next was Jette McKellar closely followed by Caroline Robertson.

The next leading bunch from B Grade of Brian Draper, Drew Carter & Rob Stephens didn’t catch Caroline Robertson till Georges Plain and then chased Jette McKellar who they didn’t catch till well down St. John’s lane.

The race was won by the ever improving Brett Dinger (C grade) from Brian Draper & Drew Carter (B grade), both just 20 seconds later. First lady home in 5th place was Jette McKellar (C grade), just 2 sec in front of her husband Dave McKellar (B/C grade) who no doubt was keen to maintain matrimonial harmony at home. Fastest rider was Jeremy Ryan (A grade) in 13th place from Cowra in a time of 1:07:49, just 3 minutes behind Brett Dinger. All in all a great job was done by the handicapper with such a tight finish between 1st and fastest in 13th place, over a gap of just 3 minutes.

The handicap race results are attached together with the scratch time results and the KOM time results for the top of the Caloola climb.
