BCC – Summer Criterium Series Round 4 Results - 19 December 2017


There were 23 starters for the Round 4 race, up from 21 in Round 3.

D grade started with 6 riders who braved the hot conditions over 30C and strong winds 22 – 30 kph. The race was fast with the bunch staying together until the last lap when John Kitchen and Norman Wise broke away on the back straight. John took the win, Norman 2nd and Rosemary Hastings was a close 3rd. Fastest lap was the last lap on 2:20 m:s.

C grade raced next with 7 riders starting. The pace began strongly with the fastest lap time for the race occurring on lap 2 in a time of 2:05 m:s. The bunch ran together quite strongly till lap 8 when Toireasa Gallagher took a short break and forced the others to pursuit. A lap later the bunch caught her and the pace then picked up to the finish. Hayden Booth took the win only 1 sec ahead of Toireasa Gallagher in 2nd followed by closely on the line by Isaiah Bennett in 3rd.

B grade started with 6 riders, the biggest number of riders in the series. Stuart Renshaw ventured out for the first time to tackle the short 1.3km circuit. The pace was fast with the bunch staying together till lap 10 when Stuart broke away to take a solo lead. By the end of the race on lap 14 he held a 54 sec lead to take the win from Andrew Carter in 2nd only just over Julian Woods in 3rd place. Fastest lap was the last lap on 2:00 m:s.

A grade raced next with 4 riders starting. Craig Hutton was back again to challenge the others, this time without his son on the back of his bike. All 4 riders stayed together for much of the race setting some fast lap times until lap 10 when Craig and Brad Rayner broke away from Josh Corcoran and Mark Windsor. By the bell on the last lap, Craig and Brad had a lead of 1:17 m:s on the others. At the finish Craig won by 2 secs over Brad. There was then a big gap of 1:25 m:s to Josh in 3rd place who was only 2 secs ahead of Mark in 4th. Fastest lap was the last lap on 1:53 m:s.

Also attached are the full points score total for the 4 week series. Unfortunately, round 2 had to be cancelled due to rain. A grade was won by Mark Windsor on 22 points. B grade leader was Julian Woods on 27 points. C grade was won by Hayden Booth on 26 points and D grade was won by Rosemary Hastings on 27 points.

This criterium series was hailed a great success with 30 different riders competing in the series. Winners of the lucky entrant’s draw were Toireasa Gallagher, Mark Sutton and Brad Rayner.
