BCC – Summer Criterium Series Round 2 Results - 12 December 2017
There were 21 starters for the Round 2 race, up from 16 in Round 1.
D grade started first with 5 riders including new riders John Buckhouse and Greg Cross who have not raced for some time with the club. The race was fast with the bunch staying together until the last lap when Greg Cross took a short lead and wasn’t challenged to the finish. Second was Rosemary Hastings a further 4 seconds behind, third was Norman Wise a further 1 sec back and 4th was Claire Kirby.
C grade raced next with 8 riders starting. The bunch stayed together initially with Dan Kirby forcing the pace. The bunch then split when 4 riders broke away from the others on lap 8. Nathan Pearce was too strong and took a second win in the series. Bruce Hutton was a close 2nd and Hayden Booth a close 3rd only just over Toireasa Gallagher in 4th place.
B grade started with 4 riders. Andrew Carter ventured away from track racing to tackle the short 1.3km circuit. The pace was slower than the Round 1 race with riders keeping an eye on each other. The pace only picked up on the final lap. Andrew Carter took the win, only just over Julian Woods in 2nd. Third was Emily Watts and Scott James a close 4th.
A grade raced next also with 4 riders starting. Craig Hutton took an unusual warm up by riding up the Mt Panorama circuit with his young son on the back of his bike in the kid’s seat. Coming out of the cutting, that is the steepest part of the climb, he passed Scott James also riding to Sulman Park. Scott relayed the story and said how demoralised he felt!!! Craig, Josh and Brad lead out at a fast pace with Mark hanging on the back. After a few laps Craig & Josh upped the pace, dropping Brad. Craig later broke free from Josh and finished 1st some 60 sec ahead of Josh in 2nd. Third was Brad who was forced to sprint for the line as Mark closed in, only finishing 1 sec ahead of him.
The results of Tuesday’s race are attached. Also attached are the points score total after the first 2 rounds. Leading A grade is Mark Windsor on 15 points and B grade leader is Julian Woods on 19 points. Leading C grade is Nathan Pearce on 20 points and leading D grade is Rosemary Hastings on 19 points.
